About
This article explains how many children visit emergency departments (EDs) that see fewer than 10 kids daily. It describes the National Pediatric Readiness Project, which sets standards for EDs to care for sick and injured children safely. High pediatric readiness can lower death rates in critically ill kids. To improve and maintain this readiness, hospitals need to support pediatric leaders and focus on quality improvement. Including pediatric readiness in policies is important for long-term success. This article is part of a series in Pediatrics Clinics of North America 2024 June; 71(3).
