2023 Survey of Pediatric Care Coordination Centers

State Departments of Health are the focal point for the creation and sustainment of care coordination centers. By quickly managing limited resources, multiple states were able to create care coordination centers in response to Covid-19.

The Pediatric Pandemic Network's Deployable Assets Domain conducted a survey in 2023 to study pediatric care coordination centers nationwide. The aim was to identify best practices for creating a care coordination model. The survey highlighted the crucial role of State Departments of Health in establishing and maintaining these centers efficiently. Care coordination centers have proven effective in managing resources during crises like Covid-19.

The survey involved twelve care coordination centers and focused on understanding current practices and capabilities. Stakeholder involvement, particularly state health departments, was crucial for successful center operations. The study emphasized the importance of early engagement with state health officials for a center's success.

Key observations included the reliance of care coordination centers on state health departments for support and the reactive nature of these centers. The survey results will guide the development of a pediatric care coordination model for broader implementation in PPN hubs or state health departments.
