This journal article describes a nationwide study that found emergency departments and trauma centers are better prepared to care for children when a pediatrician is on-site. Hospitals with pediatricians available had higher scores for being ready to treat young patients. The study suggests having a pediatrician present can improve the quality of emergency care for children across the country.
