About
This article examines how pediatric hospitals across the U.S. responded to a significant increase in respiratory viral infections in fall 2022. This surge, intensified by the ongoing COVID-19 pandemic, staffing shortages, and a pediatric mental health crisis, led to overcrowded emergency departments and strained resources. Researchers surveyed 10 regional pediatric hospitals within the Pediatric Pandemic Network to document adaptive strategies such as repurposing spaces, modifying staffing models, and implementing innovative care delivery methods. The study aims to inform future preparedness for similar pediatric healthcare crises.
