About
This video describes Nirsevimab, known as Beyfortus, is a long-acting antibody that helps protect infants from RSV. It isn't a vaccine but works similarly by reducing severe RSV cases and hospital visits. It's given to newborns before or during their first RSV season if the mother didn't get an RSV shot while pregnant. High-risk infants may need it in their second season too. Nirsevimab is injected into the thigh and can be given with other vaccines. Dosage depends on weight, with smaller babies getting 50 mg and larger ones 100 mg per dose; high-risk older infants receive 200 mg split into two shots.
