About
This article (with video abstract) is about a study on low-value care (LVC) in children's hospitals. It describes how researchers used a Pediatric Health Information System Low-Value Care Calculator to track trends over seven years. The study looked at 29 different low-value services provided in these hospitals. Between 2016 and 2022, LVC improved for only a small number of services. Improvements were more common in therapeutic areas—like medications and procedures—compared to diagnostic ones, such as imaging and lab tests. These findings can help guide which services to target first for reducing unnecessary care.
