About
This article explores the challenges of providing mental and behavioral healthcare to children in emergency departments. It describes how about 5% of pediatric visits involve these issues, but many hospitals are unprepared. Key problems include poor electronic record management, bad communication, and difficult-to-use technology. Other issues are outdated infrastructure and lack of staff training. Some patients also resist using telepsychiatry services. The study suggests that future research should focus on creating better systems to help care for these young patients more effectively in emergency settings.
