This article discusses new ways to protect babies from RSV, a virus causing lung infections. Two methods were approved in 2023: one uses a long-lasting antibody called nirsevimab to shield infants for five months, and the other boosts pregnant women's immunity so they pass protection to their babies. These strategies aim to reduce hospital visits and severe cases of RSV in infants. The U.S. has recommended these approaches for young children at risk, while Europe is also adopting them widely, showing promise in lowering infant illness rates globally.
