About
This report was prepared for Congressional Requesters in April 2018 by the United States Government Accountability Office (GAO). The report highlights the challenges faced by first responders and public safety officials in emergency communications, the technical assistance provided by the Department of Homeland Security (DHS) and Federal Emergency Management Agency (FEMA), and the effectiveness of the regional emergency communications coordination working groups (RECCWGs) established by the Post-Katrina Act. It emphasizes the importance of collaboration, training, and funding to improve emergency communications capabilities nationwide. The report recommends enhancing collaboration among the RECCWGs to address common challenges and improve emergency response efforts.
