About
Gastroenteritis is a common illness in infants and children worldwide. In the United States, millions of children visit outpatient clinics and hospitals due to diarrhea each year. In developing countries, diarrhea is a leading cause of death in young children. Oral rehydration therapy (ORT) with oral rehydration solutions (ORS) and proper nutrition is crucial for treating diarrhea. Recent studies show that zinc and ORS with reduced osmolarity can help. Although ORT is widely used in developing countries, its adoption in the U.S. is low. Following these updated guidelines from the CDC can help reduce medical costs and deaths due to diarrhea in American children.Tags
