About
This data brief reports that National Center for Health Statistics show in 2021, 14.9% of U.S. children aged 5–17 received mental health treatment. Older kids (12–17) were more likely to get help than younger ones (5–11). Boys took medication more often than girls, but both got counseling at similar rates. Asian non-Hispanic children were least likely to receive treatment compared to other groups. More rural areas saw higher treatment rates than urban ones. Treatment included taking medication or getting therapy from a mental health professional within the past year.
