This article describes the relationship among a local health department, a university, and an environmental services company that collaborated in Detroit, Michigan to examine markers of the COVID-19 virus, SARS-CoV-2, in wastewater to manage outbreaks. Communication among the partners helped wastewater data to inform public health responses within a short period of time. Outbreaks were tracked in 20 sewersheds. Benefits include increased epidemiological understanding of this virus in addition to providing public health officials with data to facilitate improved response.Tags
