This article evaluates the impact of a quality improvement initiative on enhancing pediatric readiness in an emergency department. The study, conducted at a Level I trauma center in the Southwestern United States, implemented various strategies such as appointing a pediatric emergency care coordinator, establishing pediatric-specific policies, and educating staff. Results showed a significant improvement in the Pediatric Readiness Score by 45.4%, leading to increased transfers to pediatric hospitals. While blood pressure documentation slightly improved, pain score documentation decreased. The initiative positively influenced emergency department pediatric readiness, showcasing the importance of dedicated pediatric resources and training.
