This article reviews a Spring 2023 workshop on mass casualty incidents held at the Society for Pediatric Anesthesia-American Academy of Pediatrics Annual conference. The workshop utilized diverse instructional methods, including mini-lectures, problem-based learning, and simulated disaster scenarios with actors. It highlighted three key themes: the ongoing impact of disasters on hospitals and the necessity for preparation, the often underestimated role of anesthesiologists in disaster response, and the need for continuous disaster preparedness training throughout careers. The article aims to further define the challenges, showcase the leadership role of anesthesiologists, and recommend best practices for effective disaster preparedness.
