About
This article examines the challenges of family reunification and human rights violations linked to migration tragedies, focusing on the lack of physical identification of deceased individuals. Analyzing six cases from the 2013 Lampedusa shipwreck, it highlights the barriers to justice and administrative processes, such as issuing death certificates and verifying kinship ties. These issues complicate the reunification of families, especially orphans, and impact the legal recognition of widowhood. The article calls for improved mechanisms to certify kinship, underscoring the urgent need for continued efforts in addressing the escalating migration crisis and its consequences.
