About
This article investigates the challenges faced by children with food allergies (FA) during the 2016 Kumamoto Earthquake. A survey of 59 children with FA revealed that 64.4% had difficulty accessing allergen-free food during the disaster, and 49.2% lacked a home stockpile. Most families evacuated, with many staying in cars rather than public shelters. The study highlights the need for improved disaster planning, including self-stockpiling allergen-free foods, reassessing public stockpiles, and establishing better systems for distributing allergen-free relief supplies to affected families.
