About
This scoping review found 22 relevant articles focusing on home-based preparedness for families of children and youth with special healthcare needs. Different approaches were used to improve emergency preparedness, such as training sessions, simulated crises, and provision of emergency kits. Studies showed that caregivers felt underprepared but benefited from training in terms of self-efficacy, skills, and health outcomes for the children. More research is needed to compare interventions and assess their long-term impact on a larger scale. It is recommended to integrate preparedness training into routine care and transitions from hospital to home.
