About
This study looks at how community vulnerabilities affect disaster preparedness after major disasters in 2017. It uses data from FEMA's National Household Survey and the CDC's Social Vulnerability Index. Three groups of preparedness were found: basic, high with social engagement, and advanced socially engaged. People in areas with more single-parent homes or no vehicles were less prepared. Those in areas with older adults or mobile homes were better prepared. The study highlights the need for community efforts to improve disaster readiness and shows that social engagement plays a key role in how well people prepare for disasters.
