About
This article reviews different triage systems for children in mass-casualty incidents (MCIs). It describes how these events overwhelm local resources and highlights the need for pediatric-specific plans due to children's unique needs. Many current systems are adapted from adult models, leading to issues like over- or under-triage. The review found no single best system but noted that CareFlight performed well in studies, while JumpSTART is widely used in the U.S. It emphasizes the importance of developing a new triage tool specifically for children and suggests further research on secondary triage methods like PPATS, which predicts outcomes better than older systems.
