About
This article provides findings from a survey of over 2,200 early learning professionals in the United States (US) about evacuating infants and toddlers during emergencies. About 1 in 5 participants had experience with evacuations. Common emergencies included fires, gas leaks, and severe weather. The survey revealed strengths and weaknesses in child care emergency preparedness, with family providers facing challenges due to limited staff and resources. Toddlers present unique challenges during evacuations due to their unpredictability and potential fear reactions. Written emergency plans need frequent updates to accommodate the changing needs of infants and toddlers.
