About
This study analyzed data from medical needs of disaster evacuees after Hurricanes Katrina and Rita in 2005. The data was collected in Louisiana evacuation shelters to improve future emergency preparedness. The data was collected on paper, which made it hard to understand what was happening in real-time. The authors suggest using electronic health records for better future preparedness. They believe studying these records can help improve readiness for similar disasters by learning about evacuee needs and improving communication technologies before emergencies happen again.
