About
This article describes how a hospital in South Asia handled a mass casualty event after a car bomb explosion. With no pre-hospital care system, the hospital used a disaster plan based on North-American trauma care, adapted to local needs. Medical teams were ready for patients arriving without prior triage or resuscitation. Most victims had shrapnel injuries and needed orthopedic help; surgeries were performed on 36 patients. Despite challenges, all patients survived due to quick and organized response efforts. The study shows that having an existing disaster plan can improve patient outcomes even in resource-limited settings without pre-hospital systems.
