About
This article discusses the increased focus on the role of young people in important issues, like disaster risk reduction (DRR), during the UN-led International Year of Youth from August 2010 to August 2011. It specifically explores the potential of science clubs in the Philippines as a platform for youth involvement in DRR efforts. A survey involving 658 science club members across different provinces was conducted to gather both quantitative and qualitative data. The findings suggest that science clubs can help overcome barriers to youth participation in DRR by enabling them to bridge gaps between school, home, and community. This approach allows youth to share their knowledge of disaster prevention, preparedness, and response effectively.
