About
This article describes a survey of hospitals in upstate New York to see if they use the Pediatric Emergency Preparedness Toolkit. Out of 145 hospitals, 116 responded, and most had reviewed the toolkit. Hospitals with pediatric beds were more likely to have emergency plans for children and appoint pediatric coordinators. Having a coordinator was linked to better emergency plans for kids. The study suggests more research is needed on why some hospitals don't appoint coordinators and highlights that nonpediatric hospitals might need to handle child patients during emergencies without being able to transfer them elsewhere.
