About
This article explores the efficacy of multiple-victim simulations in enhancing pediatric disaster medicine skills for pediatricians, focusing on the JumpSTART triage algorithm. The study involved a 10-victim school-shooting scenario with learners assigning triage levels and undergoing structured debriefings. Results showed significant improvement in triage performance post-debriefing, with continued enhancement even five months later. Common errors included over-triage of uninjured children with special health care needs and under-triage of head-injured, unresponsive patients. The findings highlight the importance of structured debriefings in PDM simulation education for sustained improvement in triage accuracy and the need to address specific patient assessment challenges.
