About
This article explores the feasibility of using robots to provide pediatric expertise remotely during disasters when hospitals may lack specialists to care for injured children. Through drills in Los Angeles County in 2008, telemedicine was tested during a simulated train crash and earthquake scenario. Results showed that pediatric specialists successfully provided triage and treatment consults via the robot, extending resources and expert consults to areas in need. The conclusion highlights the potential of telemedicine in treating seriously injured pediatric victims and training first receivers to collaborate with specialists from remote locations.
