About
This article describes the injury impact of the 2010 Haiti earthquake. A survey was conducted in January 2011 to estimate injury rates and medical needs in Port au Prince. It found an overall injury rate of 40.2 per 1000 people, with higher rates among those living in camps compared to neighborhoods. The study estimated around 124,577 injuries, much lower than the reported figure of 300,000 injuries. Understanding injury burdens is crucial for disaster planning but remains challenging due to reporting difficulties and lack of standardized definitions for non-severe injuries.
