About
This study involved a pediatric trauma center that conducted its first live evacuation exercise. The center in Ohio had 525 beds and over 12,000 employees. Perioperative teams, along with support staff, assessed evacuation planning in six key areas: communication, resources, security, staff roles, utilities, and patient support. They learned the importance of including surgeons in plans and improving communication between departments. Security personnel also need to help during evacuations. The exercise aimed to improve emergency readiness by testing real-life scenarios for better outcomes in future emergencies.
