About
This article reviews the medical responses of a pediatric neurosurgical team to patients with nervous system injuries following a tornado disaster. The team treated 24 patients with cranial, spinal, and peripheral nerve injuries, performing various procedures within the first 12 hours and the subsequent 24 hours after the tornado struck in 2011. The importance of organized medical teams and hospital administration in reducing mortality and morbidity during mass casualty events like tornado disasters is highlighted. Lessons learned from this experience emphasize the significance of preparedness and timely interventions in providing adequate neurosurgical care during emergencies.
