About
The article aimed to assess the adherence of US camps to health and safety guidelines established by the American Academy of Pediatrics and the US Department of Homeland Security. A survey was conducted in 2012 with 433 US camps, revealing that only 14% were medically related. While a high percentage of camps had connections with emergency medical services, there were gaps in relationships with local health professionals. Most camps had essential emergency equipment available, but there were inconsistencies in practicing disaster response plans. Recommendations included better medical preparedness for campers, stronger community partnerships, improved availability of emergency medications, and more comprehensive policies for medical and disaster scenarios.Tags
