This study conducted a full-scale exercise to test New York's Kings County Hospital Center's Pediatric Intensive Care Unit (PICU) surge plan during a chlorine overexposure disaster scenario. Actors played patients and were evaluated on their medical management. The hospital's response was assessed, showing effective surge capacity but with some communication and patient education deficiencies in the emergency department. The study highlights the importance of testing and improving disaster response plans in healthcare settings.
