About
This study compares how prepared people in North Carolina and Montana are for disasters. It describes using a score based on having water, food, a radio, and a flashlight for three days. Both states had similar scores. Men were more prepared in both places. In North Carolina, older age, being non-white, higher income, having kids at home, good health, and no disability helped preparedness. In Montana, having a college degree and being married or partnered were important factors. The differences are due to the unique characteristics of each state’s population and geography.
