About
The article examines the impact of Hurricane Katrina recovery on pregnancy outcomes by interviewing 308 pregnant women in New Orleans 5-7 years after the disaster. They assessed exposure to danger, damage, and injury during Katrina, current disruptions, and perceptions of recovery. Analysis revealed associations between experiencing damage during the hurricane and lower birth weight, as well as between injury and shorter gestational age. Additionally, worry about future hurricanes hitting the region was linked to worsened birth outcomes. The study suggests that natural disasters can have lasting effects on pregnancy outcomes, possibly affecting women most vulnerable to disasters.Tags
