About
This article discusses the importance of pediatric disaster preparedness in the US, where 30 percent of the population are children. The Children's Hospital Association (CHA) conducted a survey to assess member hospitals' readiness for mass casualty events. Findings revealed that 70 percent of respondent hospitals have disaster response plans in place, with varying levels of confidence in handling different scales of disasters. However, there is a lack of consistency in preparedness approaches among children's hospitals, and few engage with non-medical facilities like schools. While most hospitals have response plans and conduct drills, the extent and focus of these preparations differ significantly.
