This article discusses how recent public health emergencies like Hurricane Katrina, H1N1 pandemic, and Ebola outbreak underscore the importance of comprehensive emergency planning and response. Successful responses require coordination among community-based health providers, regional health coalitions, state and local health departments, and federal agencies. Given that children make up 23% of the U.S. population and have unique needs, tailored planning strategies are crucial. The authors suggest that integration of efforts across different levels is essential for ensuring preparedness for future crises.
