This article describes Operation STAT 2013, which involved a mass-casualty drill with middle and high school students and health professions (nursing) students in an academic setting in Maryland. A simulation scenario was based on a non-terrorist explosion resulting in hundreds of casualties. Evaluations show both sets of students express that the experience was positive and increased their knowledge about disaster response.
