This article discusses the aftermath of a devastating EF4 tornado that struck Tuscaloosa, Alabama on April 27, 2011. To aid in recovery efforts, a symposium focused on supporting children and families was organized, drawing more than 40 professionals and community members. Led by an international disaster expert, the symposium established recommendations for the community and government agencies. The symposium's planning and implementation process could potentially serve as a model for future disaster response strategies.
