In this article, authors share experiences during Hurricane Sandy in 2012 when New York University Langone Medical Center safely evacuated 21 neonates from the neonatal intensive care unit (NICU) to other hospitals in New York City within 4.5 hours. Lessons learned include the need for clear command structure, backups, situational awareness, regional coordination, flexibility, and attention to families and neonatal transport resources for NICU disaster planning.Tags
