This article describes how a children's hospital prepared for the 2009 H1N1 flu pandemic. They increased space in the emergency department and used different areas like the lobby and clinics to handle more patients. Doctors from other specialties helped care for kids in the emergency room. These strategies kept wait times low, prevented cancellations of surgeries, and maintained patient safety. The hospital did not have to turn away any patients during this time. Sharing these plans can help other hospitals manage similar situations in the future.
