The report describes the response of pediatricians to the 2008 Sichuan earthquake in China. An 8.0-magnitude quake hit, causing over 80,000 casualties and many injuries. Pediatricians treated 882 patients in ten days; about 22% were children under 18. Most injured kids were school-aged, with limb and body surface injuries common. Many had simple open wounds or fractures, with conditions ranging from mild to fatal. The report highlights the need for orthopedic skills and pediatric care during such disasters to manage injuries and prevent diseases among children effectively.
