This 3-page "Concise Communication" discusses the 2014-2016 West Africa Ebola outbreak and how it prompted hospitals in the United States (US) to prepare for treating Ebola patients, incurring significant costs. A national shift to a tiered approach enabled the distribution of resources to hospitals designated for frontline, assessment, and treatment roles. The costs for preparing assessment centers were substantial and mostly unreimbursed.
