About
This commentary discusses children's unique needs during public health emergencies and how they are historically overlooked in preparedness efforts. Progress has been made since 2001 to better incorporate children in planning at all levels. However, gaps still exist in fully including children in emergency preparedness. Successful pediatric planning models should be developed, evaluated, and shared to continue improving preparedness efforts. It also emphasizes the need for specific medical countermeasures, mental health support, and training for healthcare providers to better care for children during disasters.Tags
