About
This article presents the ZikaPLAN (Zika Preparedness Latin American Network) consortium, funded by the European Union (EU), which aims to conduct clinical and laboratory research to understand and address the Zika virus outbreak in Latin America, the Caribbean, and the Pacific Islands. They will focus on studying the congenital Zika virus syndrome, neurological complications, surveillance for birth defects, and Guillain–Barré Syndrome. Additionally, they will engage in social messaging, develop repellent technologies against mosquitoes, and work on burden of disease studies and vaccine modeling. The goal is to build a long-term capacity for responding to emerging infectious diseases in the region.
