About
This study examined surge capacity and the use of rapid patient discharge (RPD) to increase the number of available beds for emergency patients during a disaster. Using electronic tracking systems and walk-throughs, hospitals in New York City (NYC) assessed how many beds they could make available through RDD. They identified over 4000 patients, with common barriers like missing prescriptions. Overall, by addressing these barriers, NYC hospitals could clear one-fifth of their inpatient beds for disaster victims.
