About
This article examines the effectiveness of training community therapists in Baton Rouge, Louisiana, in Cognitive Behavioral Therapy for Postdisaster Distress (CBT-PD) following Hurricane Katrina. The study involved 104 therapists who attended a two-day training with ongoing case consultation. Pre- and post-training assessments significantly improved therapists' understanding, confidence, and retention of CBT-PD elements. Both therapists and clients reported positive outcomes, indicating successful delivery of critical session elements. The research highlights the feasibility of implementing CBT-PD in real-world settings and training non-expert trauma therapists efficiently, which is crucial for providing trauma services in emergencies.
