About
This study investigates the perception of disaster among heads of households in Hong Kong with young children and their level of preparedness. Findings reveal that most households considered past events like the SARS outbreak disasters, infectious disease outbreaks, and major transport accidents as likely future disasters. While families reported stocking up on essentials and having safety items at home, such as medications and first aid kits, only a small percentage felt adequately prepared for disasters. The study highlights the need for increased public awareness and preparedness efforts to protect families, especially those with young children, during unexpected events.
