This review assessed evidence for the best ways to meet the disaster information needs of families whose children require special healthcare. The studies show a lack of evidence-based practices, with focus on preparedness but gaps in recovery information. Parents require more information, education, and training for effective disaster preparedness. Schools often do not meet parents' expectations for timely and accurate information during disasters. One-on-one education and involving families in disaster risk reduction planning are suggested strategies. More research is needed to improve communication during all disaster phases.
