This article explores pediatric-related emergency experiences, disaster preparation, and hospital capabilities in a large urban county on the West Coast. Through qualitative research involving key informant interviews, the study highlights gaps in disaster preparedness for children. While hospitals have infrastructure for disasters, plans often overlook pediatric needs, assuming children will be transferred to specialized facilities. The study emphasizes the importance of enhancing communication among hospitals in the disaster network to address these shortcomings and ensure effective responses to emergencies.
