This article discusses the challenges in achieving behavioral change through disaster reduction education (DRE) and the lack of significant progress in disaster preparedness at the individual level. The study explores the relationship between various factors such as the perceived entity responsible for disaster education, disaster education itself, sex, and country-specific characteristics, with students discussing disasters as a measure of proactive behavioral change. The research involved 3,829 final year high school students from nine countries with varying levels of disaster exposure risk. While no single entity was found to significantly influence discussions about disasters, DRE through school lessons in collaboration with Family & Charity Organizations showed the highest predictive value. The study suggests the need for different delivery methods and partnerships with relevant entities to enhance disaster risk education among high school students.Tags
