About
This article discusses the response to an Ebola exposure incident in Akron, OH in 2014. The local public health agencies and health care organization's rapid and comprehensive response set a high standard in the region. Following the announcement of the incident, the hospital activated its emergency disaster response. Within 12 hours, the simulation center created scenarios to test hospital preparedness for handling Ebola cases. Using various simulation techniques, including standardized patients and mannequin simulators, the team identified critical gaps in preparedness across different hospital departments. Results were promptly shared with the administration, leading to further simulation cycles to address and evaluate solutions.
